Discussions that mention synthroid

Thyroid Disorders board

Thanks MEEP, Midwest is out for a while (not sure how long, just a few days) and ask me to keep bumping up her post for you.

I think she may also want to know what amount of T4 would be a good amount to add. My thought is to start with 25mcg and split it at first and take half to see how it affects her since she did have a bad reaction to straight T4 when first diagnosed (Synthroid made her go hyper fast) Also, I'd recommend Unithroid, I take that (as well as Nature Throid) and I believe you take Unithroid also if I remember right, whats your thought??

I agree on moving slowly on any dose change. A small change is often all it takes, so you are thinking exactly what I am thinking. 12.5mcg (half of a 25mcg) a day at first should be a good start.

Also, Unithroid has been my T4 of choice, though I also took Synthroid for a while when the doctor my wife worked for provided me samples of it for almost a year. I would never buy Synthroid, but hey, if it is free, why not, right? :)

True but after what Midwest went through with it I doubt you could pay her enough to try it again. ;)
I don't think I'd try it either, I've heard to many complaints not only on this board, but from friends who took it and lab techs as well, its made me very leary of it.

I'm sure Midwest will be very grateful for the advice, I know I always find your posts extremely helpful and informative.

:)
Dea, thanks so much for your persistance in bumping this up, and for your opinion ...

and Meep... you can't possibly know how I appreciate your recommendation of additional T4 and your posting the excerpt of Dr. Dommisse's report.

I confess it had crossed my mind to just take a little of the leftover Synthroid I have left from the start of treatment.... contrary to my stern warnings I give to others here about self-treatment. (The way it made me hyper had actually slipped my mind, so many thanks for that reminder, dea!) After considering how doing that would've altered my test results and how it might've destroyed my doc's trust in me... I decided against it.
Instead, I will arm myself with Dr. Dommisse's (and Meep's and dea's) information and pursue it that way.
I will also take all the information I can find about hypothyroid myopathy. EMedicine has a good article on it, with links to research papers that might fit my situation.

Hearty thanks to all of you!
