Thyroid Disorders board

Hey Guys!

I had my total thyroidectomy 3-8. Have been adjusting well until this morning.

I had a panic attack on my way to work. I mean, I lost my breath, my heart started racing and I felt like I was going to pass out. Right now, I'm at my desk and I feel awful.

I just knew that once my thyroid was gone and I was on the synthroid, I wouldn't get panic attacks. Not so true, huh?

Are any of you other there having panic attacks. Tell me how to deal. I hate these things!
Hi Winstonsmom,

Boy, can I empathize with you. I get panic attacks sometimes, too. I'm hypothyroid and was having panic attacks prior to diagnosis. Once I was on Synthroid they diminished although lately they are starting to reappear (more mild) but I think that my levels are off since I've had some increase in other symptoms, too. I think once you're on Synthroid for a little while (it takes about 6 weeks to become therapeutic in your blood) you may feel better.

I hate the feeling of a panic attack and your brain just can't rationalize it because it happens in the most benign situations which can make things worse. I haven't figured out how to deal with them other than to reassure myself that I'm not going to die. I don't want to deal with them I want to be rid of them!

Hang in there - have a cup of herbal tea and try to relax...(easier said than done I know)... and (((HUG))) - try to have a good Monday!
