Thyroid Disorders board

Hey there all -- I'm back and thyroid free! I got home from the hospital this afternoon. I am extremely tired. The surgery itself went well but it took three hours, doctor had expected two. He said my thyroid was 3-4 times the normal size and was very sticky. He was suspicious about one of the lymph nodes while he was in there and had it checked; it tested okay. Now here's the down side...I had a bad reaction to the anesthesia. I was nauseous all night and had a terrible migraine. I was not a happy camper. I now know I am one of those people who is not good with anesthesia. My sister, a nurse, told me that if I ever have to have surgery again, ask for a Zantac Zofran I.V. prior to the surgery. She claims this works wonders in eliminating nausea. I am still feeling the effects of the anesthesia in my body, but it is getting better by the hour. My sister said to drink lots of fluids to help flush it out of my system faster. The incision appears to be small (it is still covered) and all the stitches are internal. I was put on 100 mcg of synthroid. (When my husband got the prescription filled, the pharmacist gave me the generic Levothyroxine. Does anyone know if this matters?)

So all in all, the surgery was a breeze...I'm just a wimp when it comes to "going under." (I should have known I would react this way. I can't even take cold medicine without getting whacked out!) I hardly have any pain in my neck area at all. Just a little tightness. My throat is sore from the tube, but it is getting better as the day goes on.

Another thyroid bites the dust!
