My endo is recommending a total thyroid removal as he says my thyroid is not responding properly to Synthroid. He keeps decreasing my dose but it comes back overreplaced. I have a goiter that is pretty noticable and is not shrinking in size. Here are my results...what does this mean? Does this look like a case for TT? After each test, my dr. lowered my synthroid dose.

3/31/05 Uptake and Scan came back lower limits of normal at 10.3% (10-35%=normal)

Started taking Synthroid

How out of whack am I besides having the goiter issue? Thanks for any info you can provide...my endo (the only one in my area my insurance covers) makes NO effort to answer even basic questions, so I appreciate any enlightenment you can provide.

It all depends how you feel about surgery and if you would like to try something else first. Has your doctor considered trying different medication that you woudl perhaps respond better to? Also, is your goiter bothering you? (compression, pain with or without swallowing, trouble breathing etc.) Also, your are pretty much on the Hyper side since you started the Synthroid, are you having any nasty effects from that?
