Discussions that mention synthroid

Hi, I am also taking cytomel (2.5) and synthroid (37.5) and wondering about tweaking the dosing, but I am behind you bit in time. I have been on the synthroid a while, but started on 5 cytomel but had some pretty obvious "side effects" so cut to 2.5...only 4 days on that....seems to be that you give 6 weeks or more for the full effect of synthroid, but Cytomel is much shorter acting at about 2 weeks or so for stable blood levels...though m,ay be much longer to see all the benefits of the dose. I would go six week and retest your blood levels and see where you stand. If you FT4 and FT3 were quite off, you may need a boost in both, but you really need to wait for stable blood levels (6 weeks for syn. and 2 for cytomel) to get a clearer picture as to how your body will react.

Remember you are shooting for where most folks on replacement meds feel their best and that is with the FT3 and FT4 in the upper 1/2 to 1/3 of the lab ranges...however everyone's set point is different (even within the "normal range") so you want to go up slowly so as not to miss your mark....also remembe that usually the TSH is not a very good indicator to wellness but it is the symptoms along with labs of FT4 and FT3 that will help you get better. Hope this helps. Pixiek
