Yesterday morning I called my Endo up, and asked too speak with him directly. I wanted too know why he was not treating the Hashomoto's. Well the receptionist said he was with a patient, and that the nurse will take his calls. Anyhoo, Nurse gets on the phone, and I have already dealt with these 2 previously with loads of questions, but figured .. ONE more try, what have I got too lose.
Talked too nurse and she explained too me WHY he was not treating the Thyroid issue at this time. Told me he did not want too give TOO many meds at one time. Wanted too do it slowly. He perscribed Spironolactone * for hair loss*, they give this too some PCOS Patients. I am also on 2000MGS of Metformin a day, which I had been for like YRS now..My P/C Physician takes care of this med.
Anyway, I told her I was NOT taking the Spiro, cause according too his labs, all Male Hormones and Androgen levels ..were NORMAL .. So I was not going too take something that was not really needed. Maybe this is me being Pigheaded, but why take a med for a specific problem, when values are stable and normal.
I told her, and I was kind.....Genuinely, that I repsected his choices and his decision for what he will and will not do,but I needed too be treated, and If I needed a different Endo for this.. I would do so.
She then says........ OOOOOOOOO, you are not taking the Spiro... Me.. No.. I am not taking it.
She then says, well ok then. Let me talk too doc and see if we can get you started on Synthroid ( which is what he perscibed FINALLY )

The dose is 50mcg...He gave a 3 month script, and I am too go back in April too be retested. Does this sound right?

Also, I am not saying this is end all/ Cure all for the way I feel.. But...... it is a start, and I am hoping this works for me.

I have ?'s though...

Is this Med safe for TTC'ing? We always wanted 4 kids, we have 3 now.. So if I am not able too TTC with this Med, I am ok with it.. Just do not want too Try if this drug is not safe.

What EXACTLY does Synthroid do, and WHAT is it? How does it help with treating the Antibody thing?

Why is it so IMPORTANT too take at EXACT same time every day.. My insert says too take at exact same time every day, If I missed the timed dose, that I am too call my Endo and let him know? Just wondering if say I miss my 7:30 am dose * which is when I would take it, cause tummy will be empty * but if I forget and remember at 8:30 too take it, what will happen?

I know as time goes on I will have more questions... but these are it for now:)

Hooray for you, Missy! I had to be the same way to get myself diagnosed. It's important to be assertive, but not rude, to these guys to get what you want. You must really have the knack, and I respect that. I sometimes let my outrage get in my way, and that helps nothing.

You've been given the typical starting dose. Retesting no sooner than 6-8 weeks is best. It takes that long for the T4 to build up in your system. Expect that you may experience any of the following ~ decreased or increased number of symptoms, or more or less severe symptoms as you go along in treatment. Doctors don't tell you these things, so it's better to expect some bumps in the road.

Synthroid isn't a chemical agent that unnaturally changes the way a body system works. It restores what has been missing... the T4 thyroid hormone itself. Therefore, it's completely safe - because it's supposed to be there in the first place. To be honest, it would be better for you to hold off TTC for a little while until your thyroid hormone levels rise to mid-range or higher. Your chances for miscarriage are much higher when hypothyroid, or when your levels are fluctuating a lot.

See above for what it is and what it does. It does not help lower antibodies, though. If your primary problem is TPO antibodies, taking a selenium supplement may very well help lower them. (It doesn't do anything for Tg antibodies, however.) Take 200 mcgs of it per day for a month, then take 100 mcgs a day for maintenance. It's a good antioxidant mineral that most people don't get enough of in normal diet.

IMO, it's overkill to report every missed dose to the MD, and he'll get irritated by that in pretty short order. In the beginning, it's vital to get in the habit of taking it daily at approximately the same time and without food. Missing 2 or 3 days in a row several times a month will cause big trouble in level fluctuation. I don't take mine to the exact hour. M-F I do; but weekends, I sleep in later. For me, it doesn't seem to make a difference. For you it might... No way to tell. But, again IMO, I wouldn't worry about a 1-hour delay.
