Discussions that mention synthroid

Thyroid Disorders board

Hello All!
I am new to the posting scene, but it looks like people seem to be getting a lot of positive advice, so here goes.

I was diagnosed with Graves Disease in April 06. I was on Tapazole and Inderal for about 2 and a half months until I decided to have a thyroidectomy. Originally I made this decision because we wanted to try and get pregnant within 2 or 3 months after the surgery, and since they prefer no pregnancy with 6-12 months after RAI, that's why I went that route.
I had the surgery on July 19th. I was put on 88 mcg. of synthroid and they told me I need to wait about 4 weeks to get my first blood test to see where I am at. Which is fine.
The week right after surgery I was getting severe tremors and anxiety. They put me on a very low dose of Xanax just to get me over the hump. I stopped taking it within 6 days since I started to feel fine. Then for about 2 weeks I started to feel totally normal except for minor neck stiffness, which I know is normal.
Down to the problem. About 6 days ago, these "panic attacks" started again. Are they related to the surgery? I have know idea. My doctor says he feels as if I have an anxiety disorder and put me on Effexor and I am also on the Xanax again to keep me from going crazy. He wants to wean me off of the Xanax as soon as possible.
Is there anyone else who has experienced this?
I hope things get figured out soon!
Thanks for any advice.
Hello again!

Just thought I would leave an update. I am finally getting somewhere now. I am continuing to take the Effexor once a day (37 mg.) I was on Xanax and some other drug called Visceral (sp?) to help with the panic feelings.

Only now, after the surgery, am I hearing stories of people who have gone through the same thing after a thyroidectomy. I wish I had at least known about this possibility so it wasn't so scary!!! I thought I was going crazy! From what I hear, it lasts around 6 weeks and then slowly wears off.

Also, I was on 88 mcg. of Synthroid and I just got my first months blood results. The T3 and T4 were normal, but my TSH was .18. So I guess that was a little bit too much, which surprised me since most people around in the 100 mcg. range. So they are lowering me to 75 mcg. and testing me again in a month. I guess it has nothing to do with it, but I am a small person (5'4") and 110 pounds. Maybe this is why I don't need too high of a dose. But as they say, everyone is different and needs different amounts.

Thanks for the input everyone!
