Weight Loss board

Some of you may be familiar with my weight loss endeavors...I'm really scraping the bottom of the barrel for answers, but I'm strongly considering turning to some meds for help...mainly, a commonly known and used antibiotic that I have been on that did make me drop some pounds.

I was on Zithromax for a week at one point for a supposed sinus infection, and while it didn't help my symptoms (because it wasn't my sinuses), it completely obliterated my appetite. I had no grumblings in my belly, and so much as looking at food made me ill. It took all I had to put a couple morsels into my mouth a day.

I dropped about five or six pounds, and I want to do it again. Now that I have a family practice doctor, he could call in prescriptions for me at a local pharmacy without me going in to see him and, with insurance, a week's worth of these pills would be less than $5. Definitely worth it.

Has anyone else ever tried using prescription meds (not meant for diet purposes) to lose weight? I've also heard taking Synthroid (a drug for hypothyroidism) can cause weight loss because it greatly boosts one's metabolism, and lord knows my metabolism is in the toilet. I don't think my doctor can prescribe me Synthroid, however...so Zithromax is my best bet right now.
