Hormone Problems board

Hi. For the past couple of years I've been dealing with some very strange symptoms. I've had low thyroid for about 10 years and have been dealing with that. Since May 2006 I've been getting these symptoms and I've had a lot of trouble finding out what the problem is. Some of the symptoms are: joint pain that has been getting worse all the time, night sweats, weight gain around the abdomen area that I can't get rid of, weak muscles, hypoglycemic symptoms, shortness of breath, to name a few. I've seen tons of endos and none of them feel anything is wrong because my throid levels are 'normal'. I saw one alternative doctor who did a little further testing. This doctor was a little more helpful than the regular endos. She gave me several tests that indicated I had high cortisol levels. I had the saliva test and sever urine test that all came back high for cortisol. I also had a cat scan that said I had an enlarged left adrenal gland but no tumor. The doctor said I should see an endo to deal with the high cortisol problems. But none of them have been any help. I showed the latest endo all of my test results for high cortisol, but she doesn't think it's a serious problem, nor is it causing my strange symptoms. I've heard that naturopaths treat different kinds of adrenal problems better than other doctors, and I was thinking of seeing one. Should I keep seeing my current endo and try to convince her that my problems are serious, or should I take a chance on a natropath? I was having a lot of trouble with my thyroid medicine also lately. I've been on synthroid and armour, and neither seems to help much. When my endos raise the dose I get real sick and have to go back to the lower dose. I really need to find a good doctor soon because my muscle pains are getting much worse, keeping me from sleeping.

Just from what you describe as your symptoms, it sounds like estrogen dominance. I, too, have thyroid troubles and had estrogen dominance. I worked through it with OTC progesterone and Vitex. I see both an MD and an ND...the MD dismisses any talk about my hormones being out of whack because of my age. My ND has been most helpful.
