Weight Loss board

Hi All,
I'm new my nickname is Jaggy, I'm 48 years old and the mother of 5 children. Four of them are from a first marriage and are all adults now. Presently I'm married to a wonderful Scotsman (we are going on 12 years now) and together we have a soon to be ten year old daughter. I'm an American originally from the East coast of America, I've lived here in Scotland for 13 years, and I love it. :)

I've had a big problem with my weight really all my life, but since I quit smoking, it's really escalated. Shortly after I gave up the smoking it was discovered that I had an underactive thyroid and I've been on a drug called thyroxine now for 5 years, it has yet helped me with the weight.....

I have problems with my knees now, I have a condition called Osteoarthritis and it means I must have my knees replaced and it leaves me in a lot of pain, I'm on quite a few pain killers for my condition.I've been told that the specialist has refused to do my replacements till I get the weight off, really I suppose, what's the point. I need to lose at least 80 pounds but just cannot seem to get motivated.

My biggest problem is I am hopelessly addicted to Coke-a-cola, I drink a 2 litre plus bottle a day. I've just tonight bought flavoured water and and am going to try moving to that. I feel so alone with this battle, it's ruling and ruining my life...any thoughts, hints, words of encouragement would be so greatly appreciated.

Take care all,
Jaggy
