Pain Management board

Hi Blessed:

I really wish you luck in this department. I am/was (keeping fingers crossed) a migrain sufferer since age 7. I am 44 now. My entire family has them and I am the baby of 7. My migraines stopped when I hit puberty, then at age 28 I had an emergency hysterectomy due to severe endometriosis that got my heart rate involved....up to 160 and would not come down.....Anyway.....as soon as the hysterectomey was over the headaches started again....slowly...like a monthly cycle....then they began to increase to the point that by the time I was 35 I was having daily migraines sometime 2 and 3 a day with classic aura's. My GP had me taking Fiornal with codine and alternating Tylenol #3 every other headache. This past April I started taking Topamax. Topamax is (as I understand) an anti-seizure medicine that has had much success recently with migraine sufferers. I started out 25 mg at night, took that for around a month, started having break thru headaches, my Dr. upped to 50 mg at night, then about a month later, I started having the headaches again, but not as deep/strong...so he put me up to 75 mg at night.....I have not had a headache since (knocking on wood here) Hurricane Charley came into the Gulf of Mexico. That was in early August. My headaches were always "enhanced" by atmospheric conditions, specifically barometric pressure. I live in the DEEP SOUTH, in Hurricane Territory.....So I've always hated the summers.....This summer was WONDERFUL..... One of the "side effects" of Topamax is weight loss. I've lost a total of 60 pounds now.... :bouncing: What a side effect huh? It's been a blessing for me....Now if I can just rid myself of this pinched S-1 nerve from the L-5 rupture....I'll be good as new.

I hope you find something that works for you. Topamax has been my Migraine Miracle....

Here's hoping we all have some pain free days ahead.
