Discussions that mention valium

Addiction & Recovery board

I've been on xanax for about 4 years now. (for panic disorder). I am currently taking .25 a day. .125 in the morning and .125 in the afternoon.(its not very much really) I started out at 1 mg. Anyways I am finding it VERY hard to lower my dose anymore. Everytime I try my panic returns with anxiety, achiness, brain fog etc etc. Once I take a dose the symptoms go away. I have not increased my dose for over a year...and feel pretty good on what I'm taking now, but am tempted to raise the dose a bit on a bad day.

Anyhow, I can't really lower the dose any more as the lowest xanax comes in only .25 pills. (I only have .5 pills cut 4 ways and they crumble).

It this just a dependency I have or a true addiction. I hate the thought of being addicted to anything, but am afraid I am now....as my symptoms keep me taking the pills twice a day.

Anybody get off xanax without help? I know some say to switch to valium (longer half-life), but I haven't tried that yet....and am not sure if my dr. will support it.

WOuld getting on an anti-depressent help?

I really want to get off this stuff, but can't take the w/d symptoms right now.

Oh and I don't drink and have never taken any drugs before in my life. Only xanax.

Valium actually has a longer half life than Klonopin and they do use it for acute seizures.

There is NO WAY you are going to taper off of Xanax, use another benzo.
