I am not being seen by any mental health professional. My doctor prescribed Xanax for me to take if I start to feel anxious, but I am not taking them or anything else on a daily basis. They have helped when I needed them (and I can imagine how easy it would be to take them daily to make all of my anxiety go away). Another piece of info that may be of iterest is that my mother took valium on a daily basis for as long as I can remember (probably for a good 15 years or so back in the '70's and '80's) up to the time she passed away in 1986. I never talked to her about what she felt and why she popped all of those valium. I was 21 when she died and this anxiety didn't start with me until I was about 31. Can anxiety be hereditary? I don't know if she had panic attacks, but I can remember her saying she felt "high strung". Thanks to all of you who have replied.
