I believe the daily dosage is too low for the Xanax. I would try pushing it up to atleast .5mg twice a day and see if it makes any difference. Xanax needs to be taken throughout the day at regular intervals to help build the medication up in your bloodstream. Even after this, it can take a week or two to really get the full effect. Valium, Klonopin or Xanax xr might be more convenient because it only needs to be taken once or twice daily as opposed to 4 times daily with standard Xanax. Even 1mg daily is still considered a fairly low dose and can be increased even further. The main goal is to find a dosage that will significantly lessen the duration and intensity of your anxiety attacks to get you back to feeling normal. I dont believe Librium is as effective as the other three benzos, not including Ativan which would make it four, for stopping anxiety attacks. The only other problem with Xanax is that some people metabolize it faster than others. While most can find relief from 4 to 6 hours between dosages, fast metabolizers might only get relief for 2 to 4 hours. If this is the case, Klonopin is probably the next best choice.
