Back Problems board

I have not been around for awhile, I hope some of you remember me. I had a PLIF L4-5 on 12/14/06 and was home in less than 48 hours.

On 01/31/07, my husband and I were rear ended setting at a red light, I felt immediate discomfort, husband did not. I was driving, not sure that has any merit.

I had a terrible night, I was and still am taking two Vicodin 7.5/325 every 4 hours.

We went to the ER the next day, they took exrays of my back and the ER Dr. stated he didn't see anything broken, he sent me home with an Rx for demerol and valium. The demerol does not touch the pain.

I saw my spine specialist on 02/12/07, he spent all of 30 seconds with me, looked at the exrays from the hospital and sent me to a pain mgmt. Dr. who gave me 4 injections of Marcaine, right where the screws are located. I did not get any cortisone as I have had 8 injections from May to Nov. 2006, and am suffering from adrenal stress.

My pain is still getting worse, for the past several nights, I have severe pain from my lumbar back to my toes, hips, thighs, calves, ankles and feet are all involved, it is some of the worst pain I have ever had to the point that I dread going to bed. I am still in pain the next morning, but not as bad as when I am in bed. This is a stabbing pain.

I called the nurse at the spine surgeons office, she states this pain is because I am starting to heal, the muscles, the nerves, and bone are all healing or growing. I told her I never had pain like this with my first fusion, and I never had pain like this before the fusion. She also told me whiplash could last for weeks.

Any suggestions? I can not continue to be in pain this way. I think that it has something to do with the accident, or the surgery itself, but the additional pain started the day of the accident.
