Inner Ear Disorders board

I went to see a neurologist yesterday. I had already been diagnosed with BPPV in Feb. I did the MEP's and could do them without getting dizzy. Then, I felt better started exercising at the gym again and felt off, etc. Started to think it was MAV.
Lately, the dizzies have been really good. I am left battling other symptoms of brain stuff-needing quiet, second guessing myself, anything loud, like the concert I went to or church organ sets me off-I don't get dizzy, but I feel like I might, which makes me nervous.
So, after talking with her, who BTW, did seem to know quite a bit about inner ear, she tried Epley on me. Side note: wow! this woman can really throw you back! The ENT I went to in Feb who supposedly knew what she was doing didn't even touch me, she just told me what to do. This neurologist held me strong and threw me back. I was delighted that there was no spinning (I hadn't done the MEP in a while and didn't know what to expect).
So, after a simple neurological exam, she and I talked quite a bit. She feels I do NOT have migraine (yipee!) and explained, as we all know,
that sometimes people with inner ear problems get anxiety/depression and sometimes the inner ear problem goes away and the anxiety holds on. She strongly feels that is my problem right now.
I have to say, I strongly agree! So, she prescribed Ativan to calm the inner ear nerve (since I kept telling her the vibrations/music stuff makes me very uncomfortable) and calm my anxiety.
I had made an appt with a neurotologist and that's in a couple of weeks. I'm going to keep that appt and see if he agrees with the dx (He's at MA Eye and Ear-where Dr. Roach is). I'm hoping by then I'll be feeling a lot better and will be back to my exercise routine, which will only help my anxiety hit the road!
Anyone else use Ativan? I know dizzy/sad and scott have used Valium which is basically the same thing.
Any words of wisdom on taking it? I'm nervous about the drowsy thing, I've got 3 kids to drive around. And how long does it stay in your system etc? Like I took it last night at 9pm, is it technically out of my system now?
Took the first one last night and did ok with it...relaxed and slept. I haven't gotten out of bed yet this morning (which I am going to now) so we'll see how I do this morning.
thanks for listening

Never been on Ativan and as for valium hey had me on 2mg 2x a day and I was too drowsy so i cut myself back now if I need one I take 1mg.try it for the first few days when you have someone around to help with kids. And remember it takes a few days for body to adjust, if you are exhausted the first day it doesn't mean your body wont adjust...HTH
Hi Wannarun! So glad to see your post!
I am sorry that you are having a hard time with the anxiety. It is a hard one to overcome. When I have my moments I close my eyes and breath, I know that it will pass and that in the next hour or so (or the next day) I will be fine. But it can seem so long in comming! Our brains are a very powereful tool. One of my favorite sayings is: "Whether you can do a thing or not; you are right." You are lucky to have found a good DR.! I have none and so I have to rely on the power of the brain and whatever Natural remedies I can find. I have found one that is excellent and works well for me, it is Bach's Rescue Remedy, and I take Kava Kava if I have to.
I don't know if you remember, but it was because of you that I started doing the MEP on a daily basis. I still am doing them, and I have to say that I do think that they are working (slowly, but surely). When I have a bad day it really is'nt anything like it used to be. I feel mostly like I am on a boat. But I still hate it. Loud noises and deep sounds, like you say bother you, are hard for me to deal with. This to is getting better though.
I hope that what the Dr. has prescribed for you works. I have to say I am a little jealous, as I wish I could have regular Dr. and a Valium now or then on the worst days would be great!
I really hope things continue to get better for you! This has been a long journey for you and you are deserving of some peace. Take care of yourself and I hope that I will see a post from you soon saying that you are doing better than ever!
