Back Problems board

Sherry. .I don't know your exact story but I am in the exact same place. Had surgery Oct 8th. The pain was unbearable for maybe 3-4 weeks, then it became tolerable, and now I am at a place where everything hurts. I think it's a mix of increased pain and building a tolerance for vicodin.

I envy you with your pain meds. My doctor won't really give me any. I beg for vicodin. He thinks I should be off the meds already or very soon. I need to call him and just beg for something more or stronger. In the hospital I was given dilaudid, which I hear works, but they didn't/wouldnt give me enough to help and when I left I was given percocet for maybe 2 weeks, with a few days of valium for the muscle spasms.

I don't know who else is in California or Los Angeles, but does anyone else have the problems with pain meds that I do? I got my surgery done at one of the best hospitals in the country (Cedars Sinai) and I feel like I am being treated like a criminal for being in pain and no one is doing anything to help me!!!

Sorry for going off on a rant. I guess I needed to vent a little bit more. I really just meant to tell you Sherry that I know how you feel and I know how unbelievably frustrating it is!!!

Let me get this straight... your doctor is saying you should be off pain meds completely after 4 weeks from a fusion???? (you did get a fusion, right?)

Tell him he is insane and camperboy says so! Seriously try to talk to someone else at the hospital, and see if you can bypass this sadistic person. Maybe he just has that much confidence in his operating ability, but still... Sheeeez!

I really don't know what it is about doctors that makes them think that just their voices will soothe the pain away!

Pain sucks!

Take care,
David

PS I hope to God your new pain is just temporary, Sherry! Let's hope so!
