HEY NC , I'm a CP patient that uses meth for pain. It certainly has it's place in detox and turning folks life around. You are also talking about switching one opiate for another. You haven't said you can't imagine living without opiates. I guess the stories I hear about people being on meth for years is just scarry. I don't see the advantage to switching opiates. You life still reloves around getting that morning fix.

The drug you were thinking of is Clonidine. They make a patch form called catapress. It's actually blood pressure med but has calming effect. Some outpatient detox will use Clonidine and an Benzo the first couple of days. There are alternatives to meth and inpatient detox

Not everyone has ins to spend 28 days or longer in rehab. If you a have a doc prescribing these meds he will probably help with the clonidine and a couple valium. Otherwise it's cold turkey. If you have enough you may be able to taper. Decreasing each increment 25% a week is concidered safe and slow. All the inpatient stuff is a good thing but not realistic to some.

There is also a new drug called Buprenorphine that is administered out patient. 4-5 days of a single injection of this meds stops the cravings and worst of the withdrwawal. It is a narcotic antogonist/agonist that looks very promising. Just happened to read about it an another forum.

Just wanted to tell you some options. First stop bangin. If you want to quit you can't bang em. They are meant to last 12 hours. You stabalize on a dose and decrese amout and time. Cutting them makes them imediate release.

You can do this. Start with 1 pill every 8 hours as prescribed, then go to 1 every 12, then cut them in quaters and take 1/4 orally every 4 hours then 6 hours then 12 hours and so on. A couple days at each level will make it more comfy.

The old cold turkey idea of make it miserable and make them suffer and that will deter. That's BS.

If you really want to stop that is a way. Same with soma, decrease amount and increase time betweeen. I have given you a workable option. If you have heart or BP concerns then talk to a doc about the clonidine. A good doc can help you break this habbit.

Shooting them is a problem. Major no/no and will sccare some docs away and recomend inpatient. I am not A DOC THIS IS JUST AN OPINION THAT i HAVE SEEN WORK GOOD LUCK, DAVID ps SORRY BOUT THE CAP LOCKS

The medicine is Clondine, and it does work but you need a high dosage and stick with it you can you use this with xanax foe the anxiety...Low dosage's of Clonodine does not work, I'm also addicted to Oxycontin form a back surgery when very wrong and I'm, taking 80mg 3 x's a day
