tbear,

The Verelan (verapamil) is a weak antihypertensive which should better be used for angina and heart rhythm abnormalities.
Has your doctor ever suggested anything more effective, much cheaper, and with fewer side effects like a thiazide diurtetic? He SHOULD!
(Boy, some of these guys must be paid by the PILL!)

This says a lot: [quote]In 4826 patients treated with Isoptin (verapamil) tablets for arrhythmias, angina or hypertension, the overall adverse reaction rate in these patients was 37.1% and the dropout rate was 10.2%. The majority of these patients were seriously ill and treated under emergency drug regulations

Something like Avapro + HCTZ is a much saner approach. Avapro causes very few untoward effects...it's not super potent though and has to usually be combined with something else.

Zip, I take verapamil 240, avapro 150mg and hctz 12.5mg, but my bp doesn't drop below 130/72. Is this too much med or not enough. I wish my bp would go below 130, although my ex gp said 130 was good. I am diabetic and had 2 heart attacks, so this seems high to me. What do you think?
