Discussions that mention vicodin

Back Problems board

I am 57 year old female with degenerative disk disease. About 8 days ago, I fell and have been suffering intense pain since then. Went to MD who said he thought it was probably a deep muscle bruise and gave me a prescription for vicodin. Walking isn't too bad, but getting up and sitting down, bending forward or twisting from the waist on the right, and lifting the right leg climbing stairs are very very painful. Getting in and out of the car is awful and the longer I walk around the pain usually gets worse. Sitting doesn't hurt too much as long I don't turn. The vicodin has helped somewhat but not eliminated it entirely and the pain returns when I don't take it. The pain is mostly on the right side, down the leg to about the knee, and starts at my waistline. There's even pain when I cough. X rays were negative but my md did send them on to a radiologist just to be sure. Can a bruised muscle somewhere cause this much pain and have it last so long? I have never been to a chiropractor so I don't know if this would help...can anyone recommend something or advice. Thanks so much. Happy holidays.

So sorry about that pain...OUCH. I might try using an anti-inflammitory and see if that helps any. Something like Aleve... Usually a muscle strain will respond to an anti-inflammitory. If it's something else, an anti-inflam won't do diddly. I might also ask the doctor for a mild muscle relaxant. I know if I fell, my muscle would be in spasm and cause nasty pain. Skelaxin is light...Soma is fairly strong. I'd ask your doc about that... in the meantime.. try the anti-inflam to see if that helps any.
