Back Problems board

I went to the doctor and she gave me a shot in my lower back and then also prescribed Tordal,Flexeral, and Vicodin. I am to go back on Monday so she can check my progress. The shot helped a little but not as much as I would have hoped. If I move wrong it still spasms. I have to ice pack it three times a day she said. Then tomorrow try to stretch by putting my knees up to my chest which is no small task right now. Just lask week I was doing that and it was so easy. It was tough in the waiting room. I tried not to sit because that hurts and then getting up really really hurts. It was so hot in there I felt like I was going to pass out so I ended up sitting and getting up was pretty tough. I sure hope this gets better in a couple weeks like you say. Thanks for the info.

I know from personal experience that Flexeril and Vicodin can make you very sleepy. Please take care when taking them. Don't be using the Back Hoe to dig any holes, OK? :)

I am just supposed to take the Vicodin before bed. Then I take Toradol and Flexeril throughout the day. I do feel out of it totally. I slept until 2 today and had to force myself to get out of bed. I can sit in a chair now without by back going into spasms. I just wonder if it's just a bandaid and that once I stop taking the medication my back would start spasming again. Do the medications help in the healing process? Or is it just a cover up for the pain?

You really need therapy for the muscles if they are that bad that they are spasming. I get ultra sound & massages at the pain clinic for the muscles, both are helping to heal the muscles. I don't get the stim as it doesn't seem to agree with me, when I got it, I had more muscle spasms.

Also, I use ice as much as needed to keep down the spasms. I know you said your doc said 3 times a day, but if you feel like it is going into a spasm, it won't hurt to apply ice for 15 mins to stop the spasm.

Also, if you are at all sensitive to meds, be sure you drink a glass of milk or eat something before taking the vicodin. It made me very nauseous. They switched me to ultracet & it doesn't upset my stomach at all.
