Yeesh! Anybody ever feel like they're getting the runaround? After seeing my stupid neurosurgeon last week and being told he couldn't help me, I put a call into my family doctor because I know that he really cares about me and because I'm more comfortable with him (he's been my doctor since I was 7). I told him I had to find something to help with the pain because I can't take it anymore. He had me come into the office yesterday afternoon. I told him I've been taking Vicodin and Motrin and using my TENS unit, but the Vicodin doesn't do much but make me tired, the Motrin doesn't do anything and the TENS unit sometimes helps, but I'm sick of wearing it all the time. (And the stupid comments like, "Are you wired or what??") I told him that with 3 young daughters at home, I can't NOT be able to function, and that is what my life has been like for several months now.
After a lengthy discussion, he told me he does not want to put me on narcotics because of the chance of addiction. He told me to keep taking the Vicodin, but to stop the Motrin. He gave me some Mobic to take instead. And then he gave me Paxil because he says that anti-depressants release endorphins that help to block pain. Is this true? Or is he just trying to make me happier about being in pain? :D
And he said maybe the new neuro that I go to on March 7 will be more hopeful that surgery can help me.
Oh, yea, and then I looked Mobic up online and the first thing I came to was a news article from last week that says it's worse than Vioxx. Maybe he doesn't care so much!!
As always, thanks for your words of support and wisdom!!
