Discussions that mention vicodin

Pain Management board

i am a chronic pain suffer and have had two back surgeries and the neck is forthcoming. I have been on percocet and vicodin for 2 years now. my problem is that i can't control how much i take because of tolerance and the buzz.

I'm sick of the feeling that you get from taking painkillers all the time. worried about my next refill.

Is methadone a good option. I have heard stories that methadone is much harder to get off. i even heard that some people could not get off after long term use. Can someone tell me what options i have. I do need something for pain, but the vicodin and perks have to go. Should i be afraid of methadone. i have weaned off vicodin before, is it pretty much the same. jayboy
I was on Meth. for about 6 months for chronic back pain. It was one of the first things that helped. Problem is here, it is hard for your insurance to approve it without a lot of hoops. More dangerous to pick up at the pharmacy, there have been several robberies of people on methadone. It took me a while to wean off it, but it helped so much better than vicodin or percocet. Unfortunately, my dr thinks that it is too risky to take it right now, so I am back in pain. Only problem I had was feeling like the room moved slower than I did.. Other than that, I was a little sick to my stomach in the beginning, but I get that with everything...
My dr put me on it because once you find the theraputic dose, your body does not crave more. Unlike percocet... you always want more...
I would try it. If you are in chronic pain, and your worry is coming off of it...
Just a suggestion...
