Back Problems board

Hello everyone. My name is Ann. I have lurked here for a while and now I have some questions I hope someone can help me with.

I had lumbar fusion of L3-L4-L5-S1 exactly one year ago. I have not progressed as much as I thought I would by this point. I am 41 years old and before I had these back problems I was very active, i.e. working out, working, doing fun things, etc. Now here I am post surgery and I can hardly sit down for 10 minutes without excruciating pain in my left buttock. I'm told this is my Sacral nerve root. I still have loss of function and strength in my left leg. Is there any hope of this pain going away and getting my strength back? I take vicodin 2 - 3 times per day and Robaxin 2 - 3 times per day. Is there something else that would help more.

My first surgery was in Discectomy in March 2004 then another in April of 2004. After my 2nd surgery, I was laid off from my job. My husband had cancer several years ago and since that time I was primary bread winner and provided insurance for the family. Well now my Cobra has run out and I am still waiting to hear from Social Security about my appeal. We have been turned down for insurance 3 times and it appears unless I return to work and get group benefits, we won't have any insurance.

Has anyone ever been through this and if so what did you do?

Sorry to ramble on but I am reallly lost here and I'm scared.
