Pain Management board

Hi IzzysMom,

I started on Lyrica in January for my nerve pain, but by April I had gained over 40 pounds, had severe swelling in my hands and feet/lower legs, and my Fibromyalgia pain was much worse. Doc switched me to Neurontin, and I still have a little bit of swelling in my feet every now and then, but nothing like I experienced on Lyrica. Lyrica was great, though, in terms of pain relief, and it also made me sleepy ALL the time. Not so much on the Neurontin.

I have found that the normal pain meds such as Vicodin, Lortab, etc., really haven't been effective for my nerve pain. And they really didn't help much when I had a kidney stone, either. Guess I'm resistant.

I haven't lost the weight I gained from the Lyrica, but at least I have stopped gaining. I am working very hard to lose it, but so far, no luck. I hope you don't have the same experience, since Lyrica is helpful to many.

Good luck, and let us know how it works out for you. I hope you get some relief from your pain very soon and will keep you in my prayers!

I have been on Lyrica for almost two years now along with Cymbalta and Vicodin. I tried Neurontin but I was so fuzzy-couldn't capture certain words-my family called it "moron-tin" LOL

The Cymbalta made the first and biggest impact. When I took Neurontin (gabapentin-generic) I took 2400mg about an hour before bed. I didn't take any during the day. Now I take 150mg Lyrica twice a day.

The Vicodin is for pain from scar tissue around my nerve root.
I take about 31/2-5 of the 7.5/750's daily. It depends on my level of activity and the weather.

I hope you find what works for you! Nerve pain is the worst I have ever had!
