I am wondering if anyone knows of a natural alternative to xanax? It would be for it's analgesic, anti-spasmodic properties as indicated for use in interstital cystitis (bladder problem).

Thanks,

I have heard soooooooo many different claims for natural alternatives to xanax (kava kava, valerian root, passionflower, hops, etc), but absolutely NONE of them have worked like xanax. Xanax (in my opinion) is a wonder drug. I wish to God there was something else like it that doesn't have the addictive tendencies........ I'd be taking it in a heartbeat !

Interstitial cystitis is a bladder problem. Why xanax?
You should go to a good urologist for this.
Xanax is only for extreme panic and anxiety.
Worse, it is the most addictive of the benzos.

Benzos have muscle relaxant properties so they are used alot for this; actually, Valium is best for that but it got such a bad rep in the 1960's when it first came out, aka mother's little helper and valley of the dolls.

But it is one of the weakest....you are right, Xanax is much more potent, more addictive. Prof. Ashton of the UK who ran a benzo withdrawal clinic in the 1980's used Valium to get people off of the newer, more potent and short acting benzos like Xanax and Ativan.

You make a good point; Xanax is a poor choice in this situation, it is addictive in a more physical sense, aka physical dependancy/tolerance forming!

Benzos should be weaned off of slowly if they've been used everyday sidnee74, the withdrawals can be nasty.
