Anxiety board

Hi, has anyone here taken the extended version of Xanax and tapered off well? I've been taking 1 MG every morning for 8-10 weeks while I increase the amount of Prozac. In about 10 days I will be at the recommended Prozac dose and was wondering how to start coming off of the Xanax XR. By the way, I am so med sensitive that it took me this long just to get the 5MG of Prozac with no side effects. I had started this regimine for panic anxiety after the birth of my third child. Thanks for your responses.

Bondgrll,
How is your anxiety/panic??? Is it completely gone? I too am so med sensitive that I take 2 mg of Lexapro and when I took prozac it was 3 mg tops. Our livers must be missing that enzyme that breaks down meds........Anyway, are you sure you are ready to taper off Xanax Xr? My guess is you will taken down to the .05 then weaned from there. I ahve heard of people taking it everyother day, then every third ect until they are off.............I will be curious what your Doctor does. Xr version is NOT supposed to be as adictive as it is SLOWLY released unlike the regular.
BEST OF LUCK and I Wish YOU HAPPY DAYS!
Hi, No I am NOT sure I am ready to stop the Xanax because to be honest with you I feel fantastic. I just have a teeny tiny bit of uneasiness right when I wake up but it goes away after about 10 minutes. 3 weeks ago I tried to cut the Xanax in half (.5MG) but after about five days later I started feeling real anxious and weird, the Dr. said to go back to the regular dose because I was not at a high enough dose of the Prozac (like 6 drops!)to compensate for the Xanax taper. Actually, he said that once I have been on the 5MG (20 drops) of Prozac for 3-4 weeks, then I can attempt to taper the Xanax. You know, I just have this fear of benzos and I know that it's partially unfounded and they do help and I have not increased the dose. I just hate the idea of being on meds long term. But I feel SUPER otherwise. Thanks for your post. The cool thing about the Extended release is that there is no weird high or funny feeling...you just feel like yourself...

I ahve been on Xanax but have now been on Klonopin for almost 9 years. No increase in dosage. I am pretty sure will be on this for life. BUT as long as it helps that is all that matters to me.
Do not be afraid of the Benzos! IF they are helping don't mess with it and also you are on a very low dose!
I know you're right about that and I am slowly coming to that same conclusion. The doc said that I should be prepared to possibly not go off completely...maybe get down to a 1/2 MG of the Xanax XR...he says we'll just have to see. It's just so strange to be fine one day and the next you're not and you're taking all these meds. Since I am not depressed, just anxious/panicky at first I was heisitant to try an anti-depressant but I guess life (God) will throw things your way for a reason. This didn't happen until 3 months after the birth of my third child. Did you try the Xanax and not like it? Is Klonopin just as long lasting as the Xanax XR? Is that all you take? And how did you start on this journey...I am 33.

I was on Xanax and it worked great. I think I changed SSRI's back then and the panic got worse so they put me on Klonopin. I have just added a .5 of Xanax XR at night to my cocktail and it has really knocked out the anxiety with the Klonopin during the day. I have accepted I will be a prescription junkie for the rest of my life
