One great way is meditation! I think it is probably the #1 way to practice thought control as well as deep relaxation at the same time. I have found it incredibly helpful for me personally and I have heard others have had success with it as well. I have Pure O which is a form of obsessive compulsive dissoreder where there are no compulsions just obsessions. So, I used to be constantly plagued with thought inrusions which is just another way of saying unwanted thoughts. These thoughts would then trigger panic and cause me great amounts of anxiety and unhappiness. I first got on Xanax which alleviated a lot of that anxiety, but that did NOT help the thought intrusions, so I went back to meditation and that has helped amazing amounts. Do some research on Mindfullness Meditation and anxiety and you will find a lot of info on the web about its effect and benefits.
