Discussions that mention xenical

Weight Loss board

Hi, i'm new here. I'm thinking of asking my GP if i can go on Xenical when i see him next friday, but i'm not sure if he'l percribe it me. My weight is between 158-162lbs and i'm around 5 foot 1,2/2.

I put on almost 50lbs from being on medication for my bipolar in a matter of months and i am seriously depressed. So i want something to help me lose the weight, especially now i cant exercise much cuz i have a bad ankle.

I was wondering do you think my GP will perscribe me Xenical with my stats and also, i thought you could prevent most of the side effetcs, maybe all of them if you stayed below the daily intake of fat.
So if you eat less than 5g of fat per meal and less than 30-40g of fat a day, you shouldnt have the nasty side effects. Thats what i'v read when researching the side effects.
But from reading this thread, it appears that you can still get the side effects no matter what, am i right???

Thanx
Lai,

If my calculations are correct, you have a BMI of about 30...which barely puts you in the severe obesity category. I'm not sure what your doctor will say, but I would think that he'd go for it.

I don't know about the guidelines, but I would say that it is true, in general, that the less fat you eat, the less likely you are to get the side effects. It also depends on the dose that you take. I was really freaked out when I first got the side effects, but now I'm about 99% sure that I can control them without any major problems. When I first started, I was taking 3, 120mg pills per day - one with each meal. I think this dose might have been a little high for me. That was also when my side effects were the worst. When I dropped down to two pills per day (and two meals per day), it was much better. Now I'm only taking 1 pill with my most fatty meal of the day and I can't really tell that I'm taking it. Of course, without seeing the "evidence" (oil in the toilet bowl) that its working, I'm starting to wonder whether only once a day is actually doing anything for me.

I've heard that they will be making xenical an over-the-counter medication, and that the dose will be 60mg pills instead of 120mg. I haven't cofirmed if this is true or not, or what the time frame is on this....I just read it on a business web site a few days ago.

I've been hearing alot that they will be making this over the counter. I use xenical, well I did earlier in the year and lost 11 pounds in a matter of 5 weeks or so. Now I'm back on it to get myself back on track again, as I slipped off recently, not bad, but don't need to slip anymore. The pills cost me $150 because my insurance does not cover it. And the trick is to eat low-fat meals or else the bathroom experiences could be ugly lol
I wonder what the price of zenical will be over the counter. And if it half the prescribed dosage that a doctor would give, will it be as effective?
