Discussions that mention zoledronic

Osteoporosis board

I was just reading the paper and saw a new treatment that was reported at the American Society of Bone and Mineral research Meeting in Philly. I think it just finished stage III clinical trials and Novartis Pharmaceuticals is looking for FDA approval next year. It's called Reclast or zoledronic acid.

The good thing is it is taken once a year with a 15 minute infusion. They reported there was a reduced risk of spinal fractures by 70% and hip by 40%. It was a world wide test with 7736 post menopausal women with osteoporosis. They didn't mention effect on BMD or how it worked.

You can 'google' RECLAST' and get the press release. They indicated that you could switch from fosamax to reclast. It will be interesting to follow this I have just one more year of forteo then I have to make a decision of what to take next.
