Depression board

Well I just turned 21 last month and I have been having these episodes with anxiety attacks and depression. It started when I was 17 and started college. Being the somewhat shy, introvert that I am it was very hard going from a small high school to the scary world of college. Anyway, I got really depressed and started taking Zoloft. About 2 years later my doctor wanted me to try and get off of it which I did. Since I was kind of in a routine it was easier for me and have done fairly well. That is until this September. I started my last year of school without the meds and that was a huge mistake. To make a long story short, I have had to withdraw, got back on Zoloft and am planning to go back in January.

Anywho, I'm alot better now but it's hard having to deal with depression at this point in my life with all the changes going on. And it makes me kinda scared to start a new job, get married, or have kids because of it. Well I just wanted to share.
Yeah? It sucks doesn't it. All I know is I would be lost without my Zoloft, lol. And if the doc wants you off, DON'T DO IT unless you are absolutely sure you're okay without it.
I feel the opposite way than the post above...seems like docs will prescibe AD's before they say "hello".

Zoloft made me a zombie...effexor didn't work at all except to kill my sex drive. I am currently on day 10 of 150mg Welbutrin sr until I can start my CBT. Welbutrin has helped ZERO so far. Sadly, I think I am the kind that cant be helped :(

Quote from analog2000:
That is the depression talking. You have only tried 3 meds? There are literally dozens out there. One of them (or a combo) will be right for you. There can be a lot of trial and error involved, but eventually you will feel better. I am personally of the opinion that pretty much everyone can be helped.

Good luck.

I agree that 'almost' everyone can be. I don't want any SSRi's-they made me worse. (Lexapro, Zoloft) I don't want to take a pill every day to feel normal.

I think all my depression and anxiety are cognitive though.

Just keep trying Josh. I was on 3 antidepressants before I found one that works for me(Effexor). I also started feeling like you do where I thought my depression couldn't be treated. Effexor has killed my sex drive except for rare occassions but Zoloft made me gain 30lbs which won't come off even now that I'm on Effexor. Blah. Luckily I've gained the weight incredibly well for gaining that much and people say I only look like I've gained 10 and ask where the other 20lbs are on me. However I'd rather have some extra weight on me than be depressed.

Just keep trying different meds at different doses until you find the right one. It can sometimes take a while!
