Discussions that mention zoloft

My psychiatrist and I have decided that serotonin is the key factor in my depression for a number of reasons - my symptoms, hormone problems, limited success with some drugs etc and so I am about to embark on trying another SSRI. I know we are all different with respect to side effects etc but does anyone have any thoughts on which one to go for.
Prozac, paxil and effexor are out.
So the choice is celexa, lexapro, zoloft as far as I know.
Lexapro is not widely used as far as I know in the UK (where I live by the way!) but I did read that it was a newer SSRI and possibly had less side effects.

because everyone is different, the depression medications are the ones that take a while to find the right one for you...
do you experience fatigue due to your depression? if so, zoloft might be a good option because it tends to be more stimulating than celexa or lexapro.
the only advice i would have it to try one, play around with the dosages (with your doctor's supervision of course), but most of all give each of the medications at least 6 weeks to see if it works for you or not
do not stop the medication 4 weeks into it because some may take longer than others...good luck!

Everyone's response is different to different meds, but since you asked, I'll tell you that I'm a die-hard Zoloft fan. It has worked wonders for me.

Thank you so much for your replies. I have infact tried zoloft and celexa before but only for 6 and 1 days respectively. So I am prepared to give them another go. Zoloft went in so to speak with no problems but after 4 days I plunged into deep despair which went when I stopped the pills. I know some AD's can make you feel worse but I will give it another go to be sure and for longer this time. I was less desparate then ! Celexa caused such violent anxiety/agitation that I lasted one day but I was already incredibly anxious. This is much less of a problem after I gave up alcohol completely and started taking vitamins herbs etc. Generally I have a problem with overwhelming fatigue/too much sleep so I need to be stimulated without the anxiety.
I'm very glad zoloft has worked wonders for you.
