Depression board

I've probably suffered from depression for at least 17 years. In a span of a couple of months my father died and I went through a divorce that was not my choice. Double whammy, I know.

Since that time, I've had all the symptoms. No interest in things that previously interested me. Lack of focus, trouble sleeping, overall sadness, no motivation. You get the point.

I tried Zoloft for a few short months, but the sexual side effects made me more depressed.

As I read this forum, I see all the drawbacks of medication. Just as I thought that perhaps Wellbutrin might be the answer with low sexual side effects, I read your horror stories about that. So I wonder, is it better to just suffer the depression? Is the cure worse than the affliction?

I would appreciate your feedback on this. I really would like to feel better, but I am a bit freaked out over the drug horror stories.

Thanks.

I have suffered from depression for a long time, like you, but I am dead against medication. Robbie Williams has been addicted to anti-depressants.

Having said that I wouldn't say that it is better to suffer from depression. That sounds like you have given up and you might as well end it all completely.

I have become interested in a hobby that has slowly helped me to renew my enthusiasm and that requires motivation. About 5 years ago I did a try-dive in Cyprus and I now have 50 logged dives. I will be hopefully joining a dive club in my local town soon. Also, after failing to finish a course at university, I graduated at another with a first degree and I have just completed my Masters.

If you find focus in your life it will help you renew your enthusiasm. It will take time but I think it will be worth it.

I wish you well...
