Depression board

I've been through post partum depression and breast feeding myself and have done a lot of research on it. I've also been through depression and pregnancy. When it comes to breast feeding, what I heard was that Paxil and Zoloft are the meds of choice because they only get into the breastmilk in trace amounts. I do not know about Effexor, Im assuming your midwife would know though. You might want to ask her if there has been research on this med and breastfeeding.

As far as natural remedies, I looked into this too because I ddidn't want to have to take meds while breastfeeding/pregnant. IT seems like there isn't much research out there on the natural stuff, but there is on the pharmaceuticals so I chose to stick with what's been tried for pregnancy and breastfeeding. When i weaned my daughter I tried some of the natural things like St. Johns Wort, etc.... and they didn't seem to be as effective for my depression. I also did Yoga, exercised, etc... and felt like with 3 kids I didn't really have the time that was needed to devote to these remedies. For example, I need to exercise 5 times a week pretty hard to get the endorphin release sufficient to get some relief from depression. I still exercise and do yoga, but the fall time of year is hard for me so I usually take meds for this time of year. At other times of year like spring I can get by with exercise, etc...

For me it's a matter of finding the right med and it takes some trial and error unfortunately because they all work differently for everybody.

Good luck and let me know if you need anything else.
