i tried 3 diferent antidepressant with no results
My doctor prescribed me first implementor, then aurorix then effexor. For 9 months i tried the 3

Is it possible that other drugs may work?

My sister last year was with depression and started taking zoloft and she feels good now.could that work with me too?
[QUOTE=daisy-duke77]Were you on them for a significant amount of time? You need to be on them for a good 3 months to notice any effects. I had to try many many different anti depressants over the years and still havent found one right for me! All had some sort of side effect that made me feel worse! Mostly sexual side effects........so i would go off of them. I am now taking Wellbutrin XL and seems to be working fine..............i only notice a difference when i stop taking it, so obviously it is helping me. Wellbutrin has the lowest sexual side effects........and i have had no problems with it! I also noticed with other meds i took in the past............weight gain!!!! I cant handle that either. With Wellbutrin you can actually lose weight..............but rarely gain weight! It can take several different med's before you find the right one for you! It is frusterating..............but eventually there will be one that should make you feel better...................good luck.

How long have you been on Welbutrin XL? My doctor augumented my Zoloft after 10 years and the Wellbutrin caused a lot of agitation and neverousness. I stopped it after 8 days. Did you experience such? I am now taking 150mg of Zoloft and today is my 5th week of the new dosage. I am feeling sort of bad this a.m. Maybe I did not give Wellbutrin enough time to work?
I think you need to try a lot of different meds, even though that sounds excessive. You have to give them time, as many others have said. It took me four months to notice any difference with Wellbutrin SR. But it sounds as though your doc hasn't been prescribing the standard first try - Zoloft, Lexapro or Wellbutrin. You are on some meds that are out of the mainstream, maybe for some other medical condition you haven't mentioned.

Zoloftman, I think it's standard to feel a bit icky after the holidays, even if one hasn't really celebrated that much with friends and family. There's usually an energy in the air around holiday time and suddenly on Jan. 2 it all goes flat. Even the shopping gives me a lift and now there's no "celebration" to enjoy, even vicariously. I try to give myself something in a few months to look forward to, like a trip (even a mini or a short one) or some project around the house, anything. This year we joined a gym, which we hadn't done since moving here but it was getting a little cold for outdoor exercise. I'm even getting a little lift from knowing it's there, and after my workouts I really feel great.

A study was done a few years ago on people taking antidepressants that were not working for them. Researchers hypothesized that since depressed people have low blood levels of the essential fatty acids EPA and DHA, that supplementing with fish oil might help. The study gave fish oil to patients and had them continue taking meds at same time. Different forms of fish oil were used in each group. Some took EPA and DHA, some just EPA, and some just DHA. The group that took 1000mg of pure EPA had the most significant improvements.

You could try fish oil while you are waiting to find the right med. and use it along with the med. too. My experience was similar to yours. I took many meds over 7 years until I got to Wellbutrin, which worked the best and no side effects, but the fish oil worked better and that is what I take now. I stopped taking Wellbutrin in April under my doc's supervision after taking the fish oil he recommended for 3 weeks first, then reduced Wellbutrin to half one week, then half again, etc.

He recommended Omega Joy by Genuine Health because it is the same formulation of EPA as was used in the studies. Health stores can order it in or Genuine Health has a website.

You should ask your doctor to find the study. It is in the Archive of General Psychiatry 2002; 59:913-919. Most docs have this journal in their office.

You can read the study results in the Alternative Medicine board under the thread "Fish Oil and Antidepressants."
