Back Problems board

Hi... I had a laminectomy/discectomy at L5-S1 back in June....I was completely pain free for about 2-3 weeks and over the period of time my pain started to return, Pain in my lower back, hips, buttock, back of my thigh, calf, and into my foot... all on the right side.....had been going from doctor after doctor trying to figure out what the problem is... had MRI's... Myelogram/CT..... X-Ray's.... blah blah blah.... they all are normal... show no structural problems... such as reherniation, etc.....Then had an EMG.. it shows Nerve Damage.... Severe Chronic Radiculopathy at L5-S1..... I had my series of 3 ESI's they didnt help....... so basically where we stand right now is my Pain Management Doctor is saying we are looking at Medication and Time.... that IF my nerve is going to heal, it will take a long time.... he told me he would not beat around the bush about it.... that is all depends on time now.... so we are trying a drug called Zonegran.... and continuing Vicodin.....and he says now giving it the time it needs to heal....

There is always the chance that yours is not a reherniation, it could just be that your nerves are waking up now, and are ticked off...sometimes it can take a while after surgery for them to do that.....I would say it is worth calling your doctor and making an appointment to discuss this with him/her..... so they can check into it and hopefully find out what it is.........Best of Luck to you..... keep us informed of what it going on.... Take Care.....
