Epilepsy board

Good morning Bryan,
My current med. phenobarb., seems to work ok. I don't have any ill effects from it like I have so many others. I've been on 8 or 9 different meds. anywhere from 2 weeks to a year depending on how I reacted to them. I am allergic to Lamactil, dilantin and zonegran. Had very bad side effects from Keppra, Neurontin, Depakote and a couple of others I can't think of right now. I think it takes about 2 months for your body to get fully adjusted to a new med. and it to peak effeftiveness, but some can't be tolerated that long.

I still have seiz. at about one to 4 a month. it depends a lot on the stress I'm under. Fortunatly most of the time I can feel one coming on and get sat down safely before it actually comes. I've had my VNS about15 months and it seems to be helping. My freq. has decreased from about 10 to 12 a month, and the severity isn't nearly as bad. I used to have 2or 3 granmals a mo. but now only 1 every 3 or 4 months.

Congrats! on being seiz. free for over 6 mo. Hope it keeps up for you. I think E can run in families.

I've not had any other problems from the surgery. What happened, I went in for some minor female surgery and they forgot to tie off one of the bleeders and I bled internally for over 24 hrs. before it was caught. I was losing concioussness when I went back to surgery. 3 weeks later I had the first seiz. But the drs. won't say there's any connection.

Hope I answered some of your questions. Have a good day and feel free to ask anything else. Laura
