: : Hi

: : I was wondering what people thought about the general publics ignorance about epilepsy. My
: : son has epilepsy and I am amazed that there are still people out there who think putting a stick
: : in someones mouth is what should be done when someone is having a seisure.

: : What do you think?

: : Sarah
: I have both ADD and was a child with rolandic epilepsy as far as I'm concerned I'm am
: still a part of the epileptic commmunityI'm learning about epilepsy all over again because the labels have
: changed. I think we should teach children how to take care of their classmates in various
: situations. Teach them what to do if a peer has a seizure so that they won't be afraid.
: They might have to deal with this when they get a job. I think first aid and teaching children
: what to do will decrease the fear of epileptics. I mean how many times do we have to tell these
: people keep your fingers out of a person who has a seizure's mouth if you want to keep them.
: Shove all the stuff they could hurt themselves on out of the way, stick your foot under their head and wait.
: It's been about ten year since I was diagnosed
: and we are no better off than we were before. Maybe it's time we got mad and did something about this
: rampant ignorance of how to take care of these kids. It would be better if people simply ignored them instead.

People do not know what they are not taught.
No reason to insult those that have not been taught how to deal with seizures.
Thank you.
