Lynda and Victoria,

I wonder if either of you have had an MRI to eliminate some uncommon causes for your headaches...In April, 2000 I had brain surgery for a condition called Arnold Chiari Malformation (ACM). I had suffered for 20 years (25-45 years old) with migraines and TMJ. Until two days ago, I was headache free for six months. This was the first time in my adult life that I'd gone more than a week without a headache. Although fairly rare (most MD's see only one case in their career), this condition is easy to find with an MRI. If you're interested in reading some of the symptoms, logon to

Good luck.

: : : This is my next option, since I had the Botox shots a month ago and has a severe reaction. My Neuro is planning on purchasing the machine for this procedure soon. Not soon enough for me though. I was wondering if anyone has had that done or considered it and what their doctor said about it. All I know is that there is constant numbness, that very slowely goes away as the nerves regenerate. I can't imagine the numbness being as bad as constant pain, spasms and headaches from "you know where"

: : I've posted before, so you probably know that I take Phrenelin for migraines. But, your post brought back a forgotten memory. When I was pregnant with my first child, 15 years ago, I was not permitted to take anything stronger than Tylenol (second trimester). When I got those horrible hormonal migraines, a friend told me to lie flat on my back, with a bag of ice under my neck. Sure enough, within 30 minutes, I was pain free. I had forgotten how well it worked. I can't do that now, because the coldness aggravates my TMJ disorder. What machine were you referring to? Just curious.....

: Hi Victoria,

: I can't use ice either. A heating pad or hot showers will relax me temporarily. My neck will spasm in the cold. I live in Florida where the A/C runs continusly, but in my car, it can't be directed towards my neck. It will spasm and I can't get to the meds fast enough.

: My husband also takes Phrenilin for migraines that he has started getting from a botched meylogram. Luckily, like you they work. But they are the same as Fironal/Firocet just without the caffiene. It will help me with everyday common headaches and I will take 2 of his if I have a migraine and can catch it in time. And it will also relax your neck muscles too since the Butabital is a mild sedative.

: I have every type of migraine you can have, along with constant daily headaches from the muscle spasms. I get Trigger Point Injections and Nerve Block just about every time I see the Neuro, which is sometimes 2x a month, just to break the spasm cycle for a few days. If you have had those type of injections you know they will knock your socks off the next day with injection site pain, but it will break the cycle. Luckily I only get full fledged migraines once or twice a month. Usually menstrual migraines. Sometimes I can go a month or two without one, but it's the daily constant chronic headaches that are killing me. Along with the spasms which can cause pain and numbness down your arm.

: As for the freezing machine...I'm not sure what it is called...Cryo-something. But it is supposed to numb/deaden the nerves so you don't feel pain. I believe one of the side effects it a numb scalp. But I can handle that. I think you then have less pain until the nerves regenerate. But since I am not a candidate for it anymore (my dr. can't believe the amount of spasms and pain i am constatly in) I will probably go to the PainClinic for pain management.

: Hope this helps!

: Lynda
