: : : : : : I was diagnosed and told in Jan. 99, that I hade severe mitral valve regurgitation, and the mitral valve needed to be replaced, which was done Apr 8,99, somehow an infection set in on the heart, deteriorating the stitches holding the valve in place (mechanical heart valve), they said they needed to operate again, if not it would be a matter of days and the valve would just "pop off", so Nov 1, 99 I had a redo, also at this time I was diagnosed with congestive heart failure. I am 43 years olds. How could this come on so suddenly? I am very anemic and have 2 blood transfusions and an iron infusion in this same time frame. This is all so scary, I'm trying to deal with one thing, and then something else pops up. Any one out there have the valve replacement done twice in such a short period, and how are you doing? Contact me anytime please, thank you for listening Linda

: : : : : Hi Linda
: : : : : I am sorry to hear about your redo. Hope things are coming along. I am 31 and had my Mitral Valve replaced in March of 99. Three weeks post OP Icame down with tamponade, which is when fluid and blood builds up around the heart. I was hemmoraging and they told my family not to expect me to live. Hear I am.I do have a small leak which is stable. There is no perfect fit as far as a valve goes. What type of valve did or do you have. St. Jude had a recentrecall. Feel free to email me directly, Take care
: : : : : Gina.. Hi my name is Ally. I had a mitral valve replaced in july of 1999. I have a carbon medic valve. I can not even imagine what you and Linda have been through.I have not not any problems only that I also have afib so I have regular cardio versions. Do you have shoulder and back pain? Mine is causing limited use of my right arm I am sure it is related to the surgery..Let me know I will check back and both of you I hope have a heart healthy 2000! Ally

: : : Hi Ally
: : : I suffer from PAC's. Pemature atrial contractions. Which I did not have before surgery. I could go into AFIB. They have me on meds to somewhat control this. I did expereince back pain after my surgery for a few months. If you want to email me directly we can chat further. It is kind of a detailed explanation.
: : : Looking forward to hearing from you. Take care. Gina, [email protected]

: : Hello Linda, Gina and Ally,
: : My mother had mitral valve replacement in 1998 and has a St. Jude valve. She read in the newspaper that St. Jude had recalled some valves. We are trying to get more information on the recall. If you have any information we would be grateful. I've been trying to locate a Web site for the St. Jude company but I've had no luck. Any help there would be great, too. Thanks, Carm

: Hi Carm
: I have a news release on the St. Jude recall. I can email you. Feel free to contact me directly at [email protected]
