: My 19 year old son has Hep B virus. Found out last year after brother in law in Japan died of liver cancer. Our family had blood tests and me and my wife have build up the antegens. (Sorry, not sure if this is worded correctly since this is all very new.)

: Virus was passed thru birth. My son is currently in good health but is a carrier of the virus. He was sent to a liver specialist who confirmed the virus but said that he should just monitor thru blood tests and liver scans. That he should not start any other treatment as these may cause virus to build immunity and he may need these treatments later.

: In a quandary. Should we push for treatments now like Interferon? What else is available? Are yearly liver scans too infrequest (in Japan these are done usually every 3 months)? Is it possible for him not to be affected by the virus or is it a matter of time? Currently he is in college and covered by my medical insurance but what about later in life. Are there any way to ensure medical assistance later? Are there any programs that we can pay into now for support later if his liver is affected? Thanks, really don't know where to turn.

Find out what you can about a herb called Milk Thistle(Silybum marianum) Used extensively in Europe and becoming more commonly known in N America. Plenty of research on the benefits to the liver, protects and regenerates liver especially in hepatitis cases. Try a herbalist, homeopathic doctor, library etc. Good luck
