Hi C.J.
The first time I asked my doc to check my BP it was 150/100. She almost fell over considering I was only 27 at the time. I am also overweight, and asked doc whether this was the cause. She told me that it certainly isn't helping, but considering my family history (one parent, and all grandparents suffer from hypertension)I was likely bound to get it anyway.
Bravo for you for trying to lose some weight! Have you considered starting an exercise program as well? I've found that my bp is under much better control since I started exercising. I have also been taking a med called INHIBACE. Before I started exercising, the bp was around 130/85. Now, I've got it down to 114/70! I'm not doing anything strenuous.....just 3 or 4 days a week, walking on the treadmill for 1/2 hour at about 3.8 mph, and I also do some weight training for around 20 minutes 2 or 3 days a week.
Hope this helps....
I know it seems kinda scary at first, but be thankful that you caught it in time to do something about it. Lots of people don't find out they have high bp until they have a stroke.
Take care, and stay well!
