I went to a doctor a few weeks ago. A nurse took
my blood pressure and said it was 130/83, a little
high. A few minutes later the doctor took my blood
pressure and said it was 136/90.

I returned two weeks later. A different nurse took
my blood pressure and said it was 120/78. A few
minutes later, my doctor retook the blood pressure
and said it was 140/98. Much later that day, after
having been awake about 40 hours, I measured it in
a pharmacy with a machine at 134/83.

In both cases I had recently been under an unusual
amount of stress, but I didn't have any symptoms of
high blood pressure (or anything else except
sleepiness).

Could the doctor be nuts? If someone had asked me to
pick the most stable, sane people out of a line-up,
I would have chosen either nurse before the doctor.
