: I went to a doctor a few weeks ago. A nurse took

: pressure and said it was 136/90.

: I returned two weeks later. A different nurse took
: my blood pressure and said it was 120/78. A few
: minutes later, my doctor retook the blood pressure
: and said it was 140/98. Much later that day, after
: having been awake about 40 hours, I measured it in
: a pharmacy with a machine at 134/83.

: In both cases I had recently been under an unusual
: amount of stress, but I didn't have any symptoms of
: high blood pressure (or anything else except
: sleepiness).

: Could the doctor be nuts? If someone had asked me to
: pick the most stable, sane people out of a line-up,
: I would have chosen either nurse before the doctor.

I think you either got nervous when the dr. took it and it went up a little -- but it doesn't seem to be too high! Mine will go up every time in the past 2 yrs when I go to the doctor. I have what they call "white coat fright" When I get home and take it -- it is usually 115/78. I think your is fine.
