: the fact that my blood pressure goes down so drastically when i take a half a zanax makes me feel that the anxiety is causing it or else i have found a new cure for high blood presure :) i came home from work and got a reading of 134 / 96 and took half a zanax it went down to 120/78 within an hour, i was stressed out after work.. what do u think? also what is the correct way to measure blood pressure ? should the arm be elevated? i dont know the proper way .. thanks for your help :)

Anything I say should not substitute for advice from your doctor. It does sound like the high BP is caused by the anxiety and Xanax is good treatment for anxiety. You may need a slow increase in the Xanax over the next weeks. The correct way to measure BP is to have the arm (or where ever the BP cuff is) at about the level of the heart (but it doesnt have to be perfect).
