: My wife has been tested for a variety of illnesses including Lupus, MS, Lyme and others. We recently requested and received copies of her lab reports and found out that she has "abnormal" test results on the Epstein Barr Virus Assays (abnormal on IGG - both VCA and NA - and and normal on IGM). In addition, she has had four spinal taps and the protein in her spinal fluid has continued to climb (currently 75). We don't know how to interpret the test results and so far, the doctors have been stumped. Is it possible she has Epstein Barr and if so, what is the cure if any?

Is there a panel at the bottom which shows the combinations and what they mean ? It should tell you if it is a current infection or happened in the past. I was trying to track down the cause of extreme fatigue 3 years ago when I asked my doc to do the test. He only did IGG titers and they were sky high 1280:1, but then another doctor took the whole panel and I still had high titers but it showed it was in the past. The doctor said that I did not respond well to this past infection. I think my results are consistent with your wifes. IGM is high on the primary response the first time you get it, IGG is higher on the secondary response, if the virus reactivates. Whenever your body is tired and the immune system is down a virus can reactivate, that is what I believe. I don't know about the spinal fluid, I never had that done. What are her other symptoms?
