In Reply to: Does anyone else with IBS have similar symptoms?!? 23/m and in college and it is very difficult working and going to school w/this didease!!SOMEONE PLEASE GIVE ME SOME ADVICE!!! posted by Joe on August 31, 2000 at 19:31:13:

Hey Joe
I don't have the stomach cramps that you are experiencing, but I do find that I am sluggish a lot. My advice to you would be to look at what it is you are eating -- I notice when I overdo carbs or sugar, that I get in an almost comatosed (spelling?) state. Being in college, I understand that sometimes you don't eat the healthiest b/c of money reasons, etc. Plus, give yourself a break every once in a while. You're working AND going to school -- kind of zaps your energy there. I would recommend starting to exercise again -- not necessarily as extreme as you may once have done, but a little bit here and there can help. Exercise is supposed to be great for the digestive system also and may be just the thing you need to get everything back in gear. It also helps with depression b/c it elevates your serotonin levels. You're only 23 so enjoy life and try not to get so stressed out!! I know it's hard -- I'm 25, just graduated and trying to find someone to take advantage of my degree and give me a job. Just take care of yourself - -that's my number one advice to you. Hope things start looking up -- take care and God Bless -- TK
