: I have tried to self diagnose myself and have come to the conclusion that I have IBS. I am too embarrassed to go to the doctor. My symptoms include mucous in stools often, cramps every now and again, bloating, gas, occassional blood on toilet paper and often needing to go urgently or needing to go and only mucous comes out. I also eat a lot of salads and find it worse after this.Could I have made a good enough self diagnosis??? Any comments please let me know I am very stressed about it.

Hi Amanda,
There is a message posted by Krissy on 7/10/00 that is "true diagnosis of IBS read if you ? if its what u have". It tells about the Rome and Manning criteria for diagnosing IBS. It really is the method all doctors should be using but they don't. Blood is not a symptom of IBS but should be checked out by a Doctor to rule out serious potential problems.
God Bless---Harry
