: : HI, I AM A 33 YEAR OLD FEMALE AND I HAVE SOME QUESTIONS ABOUT IBS. FOR THE LAST COUPLE OF WEEKS I HAVE HAD A DULL PAIN AROUND MY LOWER RIBS ON MY RIGHT SIDE. I THOUGHT I HAD PULLED A MUSCLE BECAUSE AT ONE TIME IT FELT LIKE A CHARLEY-HORSE RIGHT BELOW MY RIBS AND I HAD TO WAIT UNTIL THE TIGHTNESS RELAXED SO I COULD STRAIGHTEN UP. I RECENTLY NOTICED THAT THE PAIN OCCURS MORE OFTEN IF I HAVEN'T HAD A BM IN A COUPLE OF DAYS. ALSO, I HAD A BAD DAY OF DIAREAHA(SPELLED WRONG) FOLLOWED BY A FEW DAYS OF NOT GOING AT ALL. THIS CYCLE HAPPENS REALLY OFTEN. IF I EAT VERY MUCH ICE CREAM, I REALLY HAVE STOMACH CRAMPS AND CAN'T STAY OUT OF THE BATHROOM. I HAVEN'T MADE A DRS. APPT. YET AND DON'T KNOW WHAT KIND OF DR. TO ASK. COULD I JUST HAVE A LACTOSE INTOLERANCE PROBLEM? I AM AN ANXIOUS PERSON AND I'M SURE THAT AFFECTS ME. DOES THAT SOUND LIKE IBS? I'M MOSTLY CONCERNED WITH THE SIDE ACHE, I ENVISION A TUMOR OR SOMETHING. THANKS!!!!!!!

: Hi Carson:

: It could be IBS. It could be something else. Any time there is a change in pain or bowel habits it is a good idea to let your doctor rule something more serious out. You will want to be checked for gallbladder problems and GERD as well. IBS symptoms can be quite varied and it might very well be what is going on, but it is a good idea to check it out with your doctor just to be sure. Good luck. JR

Hi Carson - sounds like you are right with the rest of the IBS sufferes. I have experienced all the symptoms you describe. Go to a GI doctor and at least have the upper and/or lower gi series done. Relax about the tumors - I always think the worst too (anxiety seems to not help this situation much) and 10 times out of 10, it's just IBS. I;ve had the colonoscopy, ultrasound, x-rays done and still the same results. Take deep breaths, try to relax more and stay away from the ice cream, or at least try a fat free variety - fats tend to make the situation worse. Good luck!
