I came across this site quite by accident and am so glad to have found it. I spent several hours last evening reading messages that have been posted here. I find it comforting to know that there are so many people dealing with the same problem. I always knew I could not possibly be alone in this situation.

I'm a 55 year old female and have had irritable bowel probably since I was in high school. I never knew what it was all about, only that I spent alot of time in the bathroom. Over the years, I have been to many doctors and have had every conceivable test that's out there. In the process, I have found outI also have fibromyalgia. IBS is one of fibromyalgias symptoms. It has just become part of my life. No matter what I eat, or what I drink, whether I'm stressed or not, medication or not, night or day, work or play, home or away (which is awful when you are having cramps and you know one more and you better be on the toilet) I still find myself high tailing it to the bathroom. I used to wonder why shortly after eating I would have cramps and have to run to the bathroom. My doctor has told me that is called "exaggerated gastro-colic reflex". So that means it isn't generally what a person has just eaten that disagrees with you, but only a bodily reflex from eating anything. I couldn't wait for Lotronex, I had read about it for months before it was marketed. I was given samples by my doctor, and after only 4 pills, I found myself so constipated that I did not go to the bathroom for a week. I was told to stop and have not gone back on. I was sure that would be the answer. I really don't have any direct questions to ask anyone, but I wanted the people that have left messages to know how good it is to have someone out there talking about this very real problem.
